On Dunkirk and Candy

I went to see Dunkirk today. I was eating candy while I watched it and felt a great sense of unease in the starkness of the art’s content and the manner in which I viewed it. Even as veteran, I still resonate with Jamie Smith’s point.

I can't be the only man for whom films like Dunkirk engender a deep existential embarrassment about the comfort & softness of my generation.
